Welcome to the Southern Highlands Photographic Society (SHPS). We are located in the beautiful Southern Highlands Region of New South Wales (NSW), Australia.
Whether you are a photography novice or an experienced professional, if you are interested in learning or passing on your knowledge, or if you just enjoy the process of capturing an image and / or the creation of your own vision, please come and check us out. You are welcome to come and visit us to see what we do before you decide to join or not.
We meet at the East Bowral Community Centre, 71 Boardman Road East Bowral, on the 3rd and 5th Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm
Southern Highlands Photographic Society (Inc.) acknowledges the Gundungurra people as traditional custodians of the land upon which we meet and extend our respect to their elders past and present.
More widely, we recognise traditional owners of all lands and waters over which we practise our craft and acknowledge their care and conservation of the landscape we record.
Klaus Clemens gave a presentation about the Society’s Creative Challenge at our meeting on 15th April. Some of our members have asked for a copy of the presentation as a guide to participation in the challenge. You can download a copy here and review the whole presentation.
A couple of our members had the opportunity to hear Samantha Ohlsen talk about her photographic exploration of The Great Ocean Road and a book she is trying to have published under a ‘Kickstarter’ publishing system. As her book is in colour (of course) and has a large number of colour illustrations (of course) she is required to pre-sell $30,000 worth of books before the print run begins. The books are $79 per copy or $39 for an eBook.
Potential purchasers will not be charged until the print run is guaranteed.
We should try to support her where we can.
The book does an extraordinary job of covering many aspects of taking photographs in difficult physical environments, preparation, settings, protective equipment, etc. It also gives plenty of detail about 152 places to visit, and places to stay when you visit.
To make it easier for you to read I have kept a copy of her description of the book, how to order a copy, as well as several pages of the book in a file in my Cloud account. Feel free to read or download to read later.
